How to select the right heater?

You have to check its heating power, the connection type and the heater size, whether it is suitable for the space where it will be installed.

How to choose the right heating power?

The heating power is the basic characteristic. 

When selecting a heater for a room, kitchen or hallway, you should always follow these rules:

 

  • in rooms having one window and one external wall, about 70-80W (75/65/20) heating power per 1 square meter is recommended
  • in rooms having several windows and several external walls, 80-100 W (75/65/20) heating power per 1 square meter is recommended
  • in bathrooms, the optimal temperature providing thermal comfort is 24 degrees C. In order to maintain it in well-insulated houses, you need between 100 and 130 W (for parameters 75/65/20) of thermal power per 1 square meter of a bathroom.

How to prevent your radiator from rusting?

To put it simply:  you have to use it according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, by for example venting it regularly, as the air accumulated inside the radiator speeds up corrosion processes.

 

Radiators cannot be subjected to excessive pressure.The heating temperature should not exceed 95 degrees C, and the oxygen content in the central heating system must be as low as possible.The paint coating must not be damaged.The location of the heater also affects corrosion.Do not expose your heater to direct contact with water.

What kind of radiator should I choose for a spacious bathroom?

In the bathroom, where the heat demand is close to 1000W, it is better to install two heaters:eg. a decorative radiator and one towel ladder which will also serve as a towel warmer.

What are the heating agent parameters of the central heating system?

In new apartment blocks and single-detached homes: on 75/65/20 parameters.

 

In the case of heat pumps and condensing furnaces, the so-called low-temperature 55/45/20 parameters will apply.

How to calculate the heating power of radiators for non-standard values?

According to the European standard, the power of the radiators is given based on the 75/65/20 parameters.
For other heating system specifications, the average approximate conversion factor can be applied for heating system operations.

 

FOR EXAMPLE:

A 1000W radiator (75/65/20), when heating at 90/70/20 parameters, has a heating power of 1200W, about 20% higher than its rated power.
A 1000W radiator (75/65/20), when heating at 55/45/20 parameters, has a heating power of 650W, 35% lower than its rated power.

How to keep radiators clean?

  • It should be regularly cleaned of dust, which is very important for allergy sufferers.
  • Radiators should only be cleaned with a soft damp cloth.
  • Do not use any scouring powders, abrasive creams and other cleaning chemicals.

How to vent a radiator?

Uneven heat transfer through the radiator may be the first symptom of trapped air.

It is warm at the bottom but still cold at the top.The heater may also become noisy.

All LUXRAD radiators are equipped with air valves.

 

In single-detached houses the venting process is easier because the air accumulates at the top of the heater.Removing the air is possible at the first attempt.

In apartment blocks, where it is impossible to turn off the heat pumps, the air circulates within the system and the venting process should be repeated several times.

The heater and its operating pressure

Depending on the heater structure and technology, radiators are resistant to certain operating pressure.

LUXRAD heaters can be divided into two categories:

 

tube radiators which can be used in heating systems with a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar.

heating panels (NIAGARA, NIAGARA DOUBLE, NIAGARA JACKETED, PAUER, NEBRASKA, ATACAMA) and radiators with double ‘ZEUS-type’ square tubes can be used in heating systems with a maximum operating pressure of 3 bar.
